Cinema Chimera for Saxophone Quartet
Cinema Chimera (2004) was premiered in Ashland in my January 2005 composition recital “Happy New Hear!” under the inspiring title “Saxophone Quartet.” New titles were applied to help sharpen the imagery. In Greek mythology, a chimera is a terrifying she-beast; part lion, part goat, part serpent, and all monster! The movements of the work are conceived as miniature monster movies, not soundtracks for movies, but the movies themselves! No lighting, no costumes, no pit, no pendulum; just monsters going about their ghastly business.
